As with most issues that we face, the common question arises – what causes this to occur? When faced with a person who displays Narcissistic characteristics, it begs the question, what causes Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)? When we talk about causation in relation to mental health, experts examine the etiology. If the factor is etiological to NPD, that means we believe there's some sort of causal component. When we consider Narcissism, it's important to understand that Narcissistic characteristics are part of normal human development. We would expect to see Narcissistic characteristics in childhood and adolescence.
